Sept. 18: Congratulation to the Polar Bear Band on a great first performance of the competition season at the Music in the Mountains TOB contest at Preston HS on Sept. 18. The band earned a score of 76.85, which was not only 2nd place in Group 3, but 2nd place out of all 14 bands in the contest and missing grand champion by only 0.4 points. The Guard also placed 1st in Group 3.
Sept. 11: The 46th Annual FSHS Band Spectacular was held at East-West Stadium on Sept. 11. The show featured 12 great high school bands and 2 university bands - Fairmont State and Shepherd. For only the second time in its 46-year history, it rained during the show. Despite this fact, the show went on and most of the audience and bands stuck it out and enjoyed some great band shows!
Aug. 7: The Polar Bear Band returned from a great week of band camp held at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV. During the week, the band learned the 2010 field show "The Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour". Congratulations to the student leaders for 2010-11: Field Commander - Julia Oliveto; Band Commander - Chris Nestor; Asst. Band Commander - Anthony Edmond; Section Leaders are: Flute - Deirdre Tobin; Clarinet - Courtney Oliver; Saxophone - Chris Nestor; Trumpet - Katie Cross; Horn - Kaitlyn Haines; Trombone - Tim Mayer; Tuba - Jason Bachman; Drumline - Gabi Jenab; Pit - Anthony Edmond; Guard - Kristen Zirkle.
July 4: The FSHS Steel Drum Band performed in the 2010 Philadelphia Independence Day Parade to an enthusiastic crowd of 100,000 spectators. The group received a special invitation to perform in the parade after producers "discovered" them through a YouTube video. Congratulations to the Steel Band on this big honor.
